Forest School

Off we go

Off we go...

Following Lunch Club, our children get ready for Forest School with assistance from staff as required. They get dressed in strong footwear or Wellington boots, warm waterproof clothing - trousers and jackets and also carry a spare change of clothes in case of accidents involving water, mud or rain. On Sunny days, staff will ensure that each child has their sun hat from their Busy Box too. These are usually carried in a small “ruck” sack that the children are able to carry themselves, therefore providing them with independence. The Forest School leader usually has a wheeled trolley which is taken to the Forest School site that children can be helped with "additional baggage" such as lunch boxes and the footwear they were wearing at Pre-School, etc.

The walk from the village hall to the Forest School area is an activity in its self, observing how the environment has changed.

Once at the site, the group have a toilet visit to wash hands. We sit on the logs around the fire pit and observe the changes and what activities are on offer. Half way through the session we sit down for a hot/ cold drink and a healthy snack provided by the parents. This time is often good for calm discussion often about what happened last time they were in the Orchard and then about the session.

Note: Busy Boxes are left on the children's coat hooks at Pre-School on Forest School day - to reduce the amount of baggage to be carried. Parent/carers will therefore need to remember to bring a fresh bottle of water for their child on the next Pre-School morning.
