Parents role

The role of parents

The Pre-School Learning Alliance recognises parents as the first and most important educators of their young children. Our Pre-School aims to support parents. Parents are welcome:

To work in the group with the children; To assist with fund-raising; To take part in the management of the Pre-School; To attend open meetings of the Pre-School Learning Alliance; To attend training courses, workshops and conferences organised by the Pre-School Learning Alliance.

All parents are made to feel welcome and valued. Parents are encouraged to take an active interest in the life of the Pre-School as we firmly believe that your involvement will benefit your child. We hope that you will feel free to ask about our activities and help support us whenever possible. If you have any skill or hobby you would like to share with the children we would love to see you!

We operate a parent/carer rota, which is distributed (in the Busy Boxes) with a master copy pinned on the board. We also publish a Pre-School telephone list so that you can get in touch with other parents and children.

The Pre-School rota

Research shows that children learn better when their parents are involved. Our rota system encourages parents in helping in the group on a regular basis. This helps to maintain the high ratio of adults to children in our Pre-School, guaranteeing individual care and attention for each child.  It also gives parents the opportunity to take an active part in the group, to see what happens there and talk about it afterwards with their child. In addition, the rota system provides a valuable opportunity for all children to see their own parent/carer in a new role. All parents can be involved and it is not just the moms who are invited to help, dads and grandparents are also welcome.
