A typical day at Pre-School…

For staff, parents/carers and children

A busy day at our Pre-School starts at around 8 am when the Manager and her team of staff arrive. No time to waste, the staff work quickly and efficiently and know from their planning meetings exactly what activities will happen that morning and what play, craft materials, tables and chairs and outdoor equipment needs to be set up ready for the arrival of the children.

The staff team are all very keen to recycle and provide the best for the children in their care; play dough is prepared from natural ingredients and any materials they have at home which can be used at school, are utilised for craft exercises and of course supplemented with other materials which are carefully sourced from various suppliers and parents.

Children arrive with a parent or carer just before 9 am. Each child will have his/her own Busy Bag which is used on each school day to transport possessions to and from school, also their lunch box if they stay for lunch. As the older children are encouraged to carry their own Busy Bag at the end of the session in order to promote independence, where possible (to lighten the load!) some contents may be left on the child’s coat peg, for example a named bag containing a named pair of Wellington Boots, another named bag containing a change of clothes and for our younger students perhaps some nappies, nappy bags and baby wipes.

On a child’s first day at Pre-School, they will be given a Busy Bag. The child can then personalise it for themselves; decorating the Busy Bag can be done at home or usually, at Pre-School.

The Busy Bag will be used to carry to each Pre-School session, one piece of fruit, a named bottle containing juice or squash (if you prefer your child not to have milk whilst at Pre-School), also a named bottle with a sports-type top containing drinking water and also a sleeved apron to protect clothes during craft activities. Busy Bags are located so that your child has access at all times to his/her own to enable them to have a drink of water at any time should they need to, also for any artwork to be stored to take home later. It is important that after the session, a parent or carer checks the contents of the Busy Bag as staff may also pop any Pre-School newsletters or notes for parents in there.
