A typical day at Pre-School…

From Registration to around 10.15 am

Children are free to choose which indoor or outdoor activity they want to do. Naturally from time to time, children may be steered by staff towards a particular activity to make sure they don’t miss out.

Parent Helper

During each of our Pre-School sessions there may be a parent or carer helping alongside the staff. This role is encouraged but entirely voluntary and a rota is produced for each half term. The key duties of the Helper are to prepare fruit brought in each day for fruit break (all donated fruit is prepared and cut in to slices/segments and put on to trays where in turn, the children help themselves), keep the kitchen area clean and tidy (doing any washing-up etc), assist staff with tidying up the hall between activities and of course, to join the staff in enjoying a cuppa. It is at the discretion of the Helper as to how much involvement or how little, they have with the children and this may be dictated by the behaviour of the Helper’s child. It is a requirement of OFSTED which we adhere to; that all Helpers provide their details for a “Police Check” to be carried out through a nominated records bureau, there is no charge to either the Pre-School or the parent for this service as it is protection for our children. It is the responsibility of the Pre-School Chair Person to carry out such checks and confidentiality is respected.

Around 10.15 am

The children playing outside are given a “5 minute warning” that it is nearly time to tidy up and go inside. This is in preparation for Fruit Break but also ensures that we adhere to the recommended sun exposure guidelines for schools.
