A typical day at Pre-School

A typical day at Pre-School…

10.30 am

With all the children now back in the hall, they are again asked to be seated on the blue floor mat. It is now story or music time whilst some of the staff tidy the hall and prepare tables and chairs for Fruit Break.

With tables prepared, staff are ready to supervise hand-washing in the cloakroom and children will be asked if they need to use the toilet at this time too.

Each child will be invited in turn, to select their removable name badge from our board of names; this is to encourage name recognition. The child will make their selection and then give the name velcro name badge to the Manager and then join the supervised cloakroom queue for hand-washing. Once finished in the cloakroom, each child will choose they own place at a table for Fruit Break.

An open top plastic cup will be provided to each child and three jugs, containing water, squash and semi skimmed milk are placed on the tables. The children are encouraged to pour their chosen drink into their cup. Each child also has plastic plate on the table for their fruit. Usually either a couple of the older children or the child whose parent is Helper for the day, are chosen to walk round their table with a tray of fruit. Each child is then invited to help themselves to no more than 3 pieces of fruit to eat (to encourage counting, sharing and saying “please” and “thank you”). Once each child has been served, the older child has his/her turn and either the Helper or a member of staff continues to offer fruit (once each child has eaten the fruit previously chosen) until it is all gone or the children have had sufficient.

With all the fruit and drinks happily consumed, the children are asked to carry their empty cup and plate to a waiting member of staff; in return they are given an unscented baby wipe to clean their face and hands and shown which bin to discard this in to.

Time once again for the children to choose their activities and resume learning through play until shortly before noon.
