Transport play

February to March

Theme(s): Post Office, Mothers Day, Spring, New life – looking at things that grow.

A previous example of work is as follows:-

  • The home corner was set up as a post office and we read Postman Pat stories, having fun making and writing letters, sticking on stamps and posting them in the post box
  • The staff would have been collecting envelopes and leaflets for sometime. Here the children are encourage to learn recognition of their names, numbers and begin to learn awareness of where they live and their address
  • Mothers Day. The children usually make a special surprise for Mum
  • Spring: Looking at spring flowers, their colours and painting and drawing flowers. The water tray was full of compost and pots ready to plant. We have previously planted a sunflower seed and allow each child to take this home to watch it grow. Our Home corner has been set up as a a garden centre
  • Exploring the farm and farm animals
  • Red Nose Day: Previously the children may be invited to come dressed in red ie red hat for the boys, red ribbons and hair ties for the girls
  • During March we may go on a Farm visit, spending the morning at Westol Hall Farm by kind permission of Angela and Phil Curnock to see and feed the lambs, look at the tractors, horses and chicken and a working farm environment
  • Our music session follows the themes chosen.
