A typical year at Pre-School |
 |
September to October
Theme(s): We could begin our term with a theme exploring shapes, sizes and colour (primary colours).
Other themes during the term might be autumn – harvest. An example of previous work is as follows:-
- We have previously read the stories “Little Red Hen” and “Pumpkin Soup”
- We sampled a selection of different types of bread dough, and experienced making bread, by rolling, squeezing, shaping and kneading the dough
- We then had a go at tasting a selection of breads at snack time and have a go at spreading butter
- We had a look into Blackberries, where do they grow? What do they taste like? This may be followed by fruit printing and fruit tasting, is it sweet, is it sour?
- The children were encouraged to look at Woodland animals, finding out where they live. Observing squirrels gathering nuts, and other animals such as hedgehogs, badgers and owls
- The Autumn weather means the children could collect leaves, looking at shapes, form and colour
Home corner has previously become a bakers shop, where the children would have the opportunity to help make salt dough cakes and breads and paint them once they are dry.
